We are all familiar with the battle between Dharma and Adharma, which is the most famous epic in the Mahabharata. Pancha Pandavas and Kauravas fought the Kurushethra war, in which huge numbers of people, including their blood relatives and kin and kith, perished. Following the Great War, the Pandavas paid tribute to those who had died and carried out final ceremonies and rites to help the deceased's souls enter Moksha. They tried it in multiple locations intended for it, but they had no results. In the search for results, Pandavas visited Bharthaghandam, a holy place, recalling the words and teachings of their beloved guru Vedavyasa. They stayed there, carried out all the rites and rituals, and were ultimately filled with joy upon discovering that all the fallen warriors had attained Moksha and eternal peace.
They constructed this temple because they sensed the presence of their Maha Guru Srikrishna throughout, and it was named Ivormadom since the Pandavas made and remained here. It is also believed that Veda Vyasa oversaw the building of the Ivor Madom temple on the Nila river beds (Bharatha Puzha). The primary deity Lord Krishna is accompanied at the temple by the updevas Lord Shiva, Ganapathi, Ayyapa, Mahalakshmi, and Naga.
